14 hour overnight layover in HKG, hotel covered?

My flight got delayed and now I am stuck with a 14 hour overnight layover in Hong Kong. Does Cathay usually provide hotel accommodation in this kind of situation? Or is it only in certain cases? If anyone has dealt with this before, would appreciate hearing how it worked out.

Can you skip the HKG ferry and just take the train instead?

Booked MAN to Guangzhou via Hong Kong with the ferry transfer, but just got told the ferry is now pushed back to 15:00… which means sitting around for like 8 hours after landing. Now wondering if it’s possible to just enter Hong Kong after landing and take the train to Guangzhou...
