I recently started flying with United MileagePlus after previously being an American Airlines flyer, and I travel frequently for work. On domestic flights, I often use Plus Points for upgrades, even on shorter routes, and I expect some of them to expire at year end.
For an upcoming international flight, I noticed that upgrades cost around 40 Plus Points, which I found reasonable. However, I am confused about the upgrade selection options shown in the system.
There are options for upgrading to Premium Plus and to Polaris, but there is also a third option that appears to include both Premium Plus and Polaris. I am not sure how this works and whether selecting it means I am first considered for Polaris and then downgraded to Premium Plus if unavailable.
I also could not find a clear explanation elsewhere, so I am trying to understand what this combined upgrade option actually represents.
