I was on UA30 earlier this week, which ended up being delayed by around 9 hours due to a mechanical issue. I had paid both miles and cash to join the waitlist for a Polaris upgrade.
After the long delay, we finally boarded and I took my economy seat as assigned. I was never told anything about an upgrade during the flight or at boarding.
However, three days later when I contacted United about not receiving a refund for the miles and cash I spent on the upgrade waitlist, I was told I had actually been seated in 2A. I had no idea this happened at the time.
I am really frustrated because I not only missed out on the Polaris experience, but I also lost 20,000 miles I had saved for years and about $500.
I am trying to resolve this with United, but I would appreciate any advice from others who have dealt with similar situations
