As someone who has been traveling for over 25 years, I’ve generally avoided using in-room coffee makers at hotels because I assume they are not consistently maintained.
Recently, I decided to test this again by running plain water through the machine and collecting it in a clean cup. The result reinforced my concerns that maintenance is often overlooked.
It seems like a simple cleaning routine, such as a vinegar-water cycle followed by a rinse, could easily be incorporated into housekeeping procedures. That might even be a useful marketing point if hotels could confidently advertise properly sanitized in-room coffee machines.
