Had a pretty wild upgrade surprise on a recent SFO to HNL flight.
Checked the upgrade list about 24 hours before departure and I was somewhere around #25, so I figured there was basically zero chance. There were only a handful of first class seats left.
About 6 hours before the flight I got a seat change notification and didn’t think much of it. Figured maybe the aircraft got swapped and my row disappeared or something.
Then a few hours later I get another notification saying my upgrade cleared. Turns out they swapped the plane from a 777-200 to a 777-300 with around 60 Polaris seats. Looks like they just started clearing upgrades way down the list and about 30 of us got moved up.
Not bad for a 6 hour flight to Hawaii. Definitely didn’t expect to see Polaris with just Silver status.
