I flew from Brisbane to Melbourne yesterday and had an unpleasant interaction with one of the flight attendants.
During meal service, I asked what the vegetarian option was. She responded in a very blunt and forceful way that there was no separate option and that passengers are either vegetarian or not. After seeing my reaction, she later softened her tone and explained that vegetarian meals are limited and usually reserved for those who request them in advance, but this was not communicated initially.
I said I would take the chicken pie instead. A few moments later, another crew member mentioned they were running low on pies and would need to serve vegetarian quiche instead, and the attendant later said she should have given me the vegetarian option earlier.
Later in the flight, I also saw her speaking quite sharply to another passenger about putting trash in an empty bottle, telling him it could not be recycled and commenting on it in a way that felt unnecessarily harsh.
While the actions may have been correct in terms of procedure, the tone and way she spoke to passengers felt rude and unprofessional throughout the flight.
