On United flight 872 from Taipei to San Francisco, I was seated in 1L on a Boeing 777-300ER. Before departure, I noticed my Polaris seat would not fully recline and got stuck partway.
The purser told me the crew could manually force it down, which required significant effort from two flight attendants. After some time, the seat eventually worked again, and later I was able to use the recline function normally after hearing a loud mechanical click.
The crew also mentioned that several other Polaris seats in another section had similar recline problems, and that my seat issue had reportedly been repaired before but reoccurred.
As compensation, I was offered either $200 or 10,000 miles. Aside from the inconvenience, the rest of the flight and rest experience was not heavily affected, although there were also some in-flight entertainment system glitches.
