Flew QF0483 with our 6 month old and had a really frustrating experience. We had two normal carry ons plus a foldable travel pram. Nothing unusual for travelling with an infant.
At the gate we were told we had “too many items” and were forced to gate check one carry on. I pushed back but was told it had to be done. No one mentioned the bag wouldn’t be on the same flight.
We landed in Melbourne around 8:10pm and of course the bag never showed up. Only then were we told it had been put on a later flight arriving that night.
So now it’s late, we’re stuck waiting around with a baby, and the bag had essential items in it. No warning, no communication, no consideration at all. We’d also pre booked a $100 Uber to get home because of the baby and lost that due to the delay.
If we’d been told at the gate the bag would miss the flight, we never would’ve agreed to hand it over. That detail was only revealed after landing.
Has anyone else had a gate checked carry on sent on a completely different flight without being told? And what’s the best way to actually get Qantas to take responsibility for this?
