Flew EWR to Zurich on Christmas Eve and somehow got upgraded all the way from Basic Economy to Polaris for free. When I checked in, it even let me pick a Premium Plus seat with no charge, which I thought was a glitch. Then two hours before departure, I got a notification that I’d been bumped to Polaris.
Didn’t request it, don’t have status, and only have about 13k United points. They were even asking for volunteers the day before since the flight was overbooked.
Total Christmas miracle, thank you United.
