Tried to upgrade to First on an Emirates flight (CHC to SYD) booked through Qantas and ran into an interesting limitation.
Asked at check-in and gate, both said no upgrades possible since it’s a Qantas-issued ticket. But onboard is a different story.
After boarding, crew checked and offered First for about $700 USD (~$995 AUD). There were still a few seats open too.
I passed in the end since it’s such a short flight, didn’t really feel worth it. But good to know it’s actually possible if you’re curious.
Main takeaway for me: don’t bother asking on the ground with these tickets, just try your luck once you’re onboard.
