With everything going on in the Middle East lately, my wife and I decided to reroute our reward flights to Europe in September.
Originally we were flying MEL > DXB > MAD and returning via Oman. We changed it to go MEL > LAX > Europe and back via Bangkok to avoid the Middle East.
The change only cost 5k points each, which surprised me.
Also managed to get through to Qantas support in under 30 minutes and the whole booking was updated within about an hour.
Honestly expected it to be painful, but it was pretty smooth as long as there were other reward seats available.
