YVR to Delhi isn’t direct anymore, now there’s a Vienna stop?

Anyone else notice this? YVR to DEL used to be the one solid direct option for people in or near Vancouver. After the Pakistan airspace issues it stopped being nonstop and had that Kolkata refueling stop, which was annoying but understandable.

Now I’m seeing a stop in Vienna, which I really didn’t expect. On top of that, Air Canada used to run YVR to DEL direct too and that disappeared after the Russia Ukraine situation. Toronto and Montreal still have direct flights, so it feels like western Canada is the one getting hit the hardest.

What bugs me is I don’t remember getting any clear notification from Air India about this change. I only noticed because I randomly checked the flight status online, and even there it wasn’t obvious. The departure time changed too.

Do airlines usually offer any kind of compensation or adjustment when a “direct” route quietly turns into a one stop like this? Or is this just something we’re expected to accept now?
