Would you actually recommend tree planting?

I've read all the resources in the stickied thread, now I'm mostly just interested in personal opinions from people who've done the work and whether or not they'd recommend it to a newb. In my preliminary searches on the topic of this work I came across a decent number of reddit posts from 6-10 years ago that were filled with people saying "Oh god don't do it it's hell" and links to this. Whereas more recent posts I see tend to be more neutral to positive.
