I saw a suite available for 82,000 Marriott Bonvoy points at a JW Marriott in downtown Vancouver right by the stadium for the night of a World Cup match (Australia vs Turkey). The cash rate for the same night is around $2,400 per night, which makes this look like an unusually good redemption at roughly 3 cents per point.
I almost never see suites available on points like this, especially for a major event night, so I am wondering if this is actually safe to book or if there is a real risk of the hotel cancelling or changing the reservation later.
Has anyone seen Marriott properties cancel or modify points bookings like this for high demand events, or are these generally honored once confirmed?
