Back in September I bought a pair of trainers that turned out to be faulty. After about a month of light use, the fabric inside completely wore away. The merchant denied it and claimed I “wore them wrong,” so I filed a dispute with Amex.
Amex sided with me and refunded the charge in December.
Now the merchant has emailed me an invoice demanding I repay the amount Amex refunded. They don’t mention the dispute at all, but I assume they were involved on their end. The company is based in Germany and I’m in the UK. The amount is under £150.
Amex says the dispute is closed and they can’t stop a merchant from trying to collect separately, which feels like a strange loophole.
Has anyone dealt with this before? Do I actually have any obligation to pay, or can I ignore it?
