Woke me at 3am for a 3.5 hour airport run and got mad when I said no

I’m with OP on this one. Calling someone at 3am with zero notice and asking for a 3.5 hour round trip is wild. That’s not a small favor, that’s a full blown ordeal in the middle of the night.

The birthday gift part feels like emotional leverage after the fact. A gift shouldn’t turn into a debt, especially for something this disruptive. And if the friend is wealthy and could easily afford an Uber, it makes the expectation even stranger.

Answering the phone because you thought it was an emergency already shows you care. This just wasn’t one. Planning an early flight and then outsourcing the consequences at the last minute isn’t fair.

If they had asked ahead of time, totally different story. But waking someone up and then holding a grudge over a no feels entitled.
