I booked a flight for my mom for 2026 and I’m a bit worried about how her name appears on the ticket.
She has a Malaysian passport where her full name is shown as one single string, not split into given name and surname. Using an example like “Chloe Jia Pei Xuan” (where Jia is the family name), I entered:
First name: Chloe Jia Pei
Last name: Xuan
So the itinerary now shows: Xuan, Chloe Jia Pei.
On her passport, the name string starts with Chloe, not Xuan, and I’m concerned this could cause issues at automated kiosks, check in, or immigration since the “last name” on the ticket isn’t the first word of the passport name.
I spoke to a Lufthansa agent and they said it should be fine as long as all names are present, so they didn’t recommend changing anything. Still, I’m a bit uneasy and wanted to check real world experiences.
Has anyone flown Lufthansa (or through Europe) with a similar name situation? Did it cause any problems?
