Delta Air Lines is evaluating whether to replace its aging Boeing 717 fleet with Airbus A220s. The 717s—used primarily on short domestic routes—are noted for their high seat-mile costs and aging maintenance needs. The A220 offers better fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and a modern cabin environment. A switch would also align with Delta’s broader fleet modernization strategy and environmental goals. While no purchase order has yet been placed, reports suggest that Delta is seriously considering the A220 as a key component in its next aircraft order cycle.
