Wildfire Forces Evacuations West of Pagosa Springs, Colorado

If you’re traveling in southwest Colorado right now, be aware that a fast-moving wildfire the Oak Fire has triggered mandatory evacuations west of Pagosa Springs. Aspen Springs, the Elk Park subdivision, and homes off Ironwood Drive are all under evacuation orders with no reentry allowed. Highway 160 remains open but with traffic control and one-lane alternating stops.


For travelers heading through the area, expect delays and possible route changes. Smoke may also impact visibility and air quality. Pagosa Springs High School is serving as a shelter, and fairgrounds are open for evacuated livestock. Oak Fire is 100% contained
Aerial resources and first responders managed to contain the fire at 75 acres in the evening of Aug. 10. It was 100% contained on Saturday.
