last night (August 3, 2025), SFO had an intense wind event that disrupted many flights
sustained speeds around 20–30 mph and gusts soaring to 40–45 mph
gusts approached gale force levels and even triggered low-level wind shear alerts
(I heard the tower announce there was a 35 knot loss over the runway)
many incoming flights were unable to land on their first attempt and had to go around
Alaska among others diverted to SJC
