My wife, a US citizen with Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the UK, was unable to board her American Airlines flight because staff couldn’t process her UK eVisa.
The issue seems to be that their system requires a visa expiry date, but ILR has no expiry—it’s indefinite. She has a valid UKVI account, an eVisa, and a share code that can be verified online, so her immigration status is completely valid.
Despite this, staff were unable to resolve the situation or verify her status properly, even though it could have been checked quickly using the official UK government system or support channels.
As a result, she missed her flight and is now stranded at the airport with our two children.
Has anyone experienced something similar with eVisas or airline check-in issues? How did you resolve it, and what kind of compensation could be expected in a case like this?
