As someone who usually avoids credit cards with annual fees, I was hesitant about getting the Venture X. After my brother explained how the travel credits and Global Entry benefit can offset much of the annual fee, I decided to give it a try—and it ended up being one of the most useful travel tools on my recent trip across Europe.
The biggest benefit was lounge access. Having free food, drinks, comfortable seating, and even showers during long layovers made a huge difference. During a lengthy connection in Dallas, I was able to relax, eat, shower, and avoid spending extra money at the airport. Even on budget airline flights within Europe, lounge access turned inexpensive travel days into much more enjoyable experiences.
I also found value in booking hostels through the Capital One travel portal, where some reservations earned elevated rewards. The travel portal itself was useful for finding affordable accommodations, and the travel purchase eraser feature helped offset costs when I occasionally splurged on a private room.
Other perks that stood out included complimentary Global Entry/TSA PreCheck reimbursement, travel insurance protections on eligible bookings, and the free GigSky eSIM data benefit. The included data covered a significant portion of my trip, and discounted top-ups kept my connectivity costs low.
While some people criticize recent lounge access changes, I think the card remains especially valuable for solo travelers. Between the travel benefits, airport perks, rewards earning, and points accumulation, it has easily justified its place in my wallet.
I’ve already built up around 80,000 points and plan to use them toward a Southeast Asia trip next year, ideally by transferring to a travel partner for a premium cabin award flight.
