Something I’ve been wondering since flying more airlines with assigned seating.
Back when I flew Southwest a lot, the whole thing was simple. Board earlier, grab bin space. Everyone understood the system even if it was a bit chaotic.
But with assigned seating on most airlines now, it feels strange that overhead space isn’t tied to your seat. If every passenger is allowed one carry-on and one personal item, in theory there should be enough bin space for everyone’s bag.
Feels like it could work if each seat or row had “its” bin space, and if your bag doesn’t fit there you just gate check it. Might cut down on the whole rush to board early just to secure space.
