On a flight from United Airlines traveling from Houston (IAH) to Las Vegas (LAS), the aircraft was full. A very large passenger seated in the middle seat immediately raised both armrests and stated that it was the only way he could fit.
This left the adjacent passenger in an uncomfortable position for the entire flight, forced to lean into the aisle for over 3 hours because sitting upright normally was not possible without physical contact.
The poster questions why the airline allows situations like this without better handling of seating comfort or passenger accommodation.
Later update: the flight ended up being cancelled due to a mechanical issue, and everyone had to deplane.
