This question came up on a Greek FB page and it got me thinking. In Greece, ferries connect the islands year round and it’s totally normal to island hop that way. But Hawaii doesn’t really seem to have anything like that.
Is it because most people live on one island so there’s not much demand? Or is it more about the Pacific Ocean being rougher than the Mediterranean? Or maybe the distances between islands are just too big to make ferries practical?
Genuinely curious and excuse my ignorance, I don’t know much about Hawaii yet. But I’d love to visit someday and island hopping by ferry sounds like it would be amazing.
