My first few overnight trips as a kid were on those old-school Seaboard Coast Line berths, curtains, bunks, simple setup. Even early Amtrak still had some. Feels like there’s a giant gap now between a roomette (pricey) and a coach seat (rough for a full overnight).
A berth option would be perfect for solo travelers and would make so much sense on trains like the Meteor, Auto Train, or Sunset Limited. Just a basic bunk without the whole private-room price tag.
Kinda wild Amtrak hasn’t brought something like that back.
