Why does Alaska show both a charge and refund instead of simply showing $0?

I was changing my Alaska Airlines flight by one day and noticed something odd during the process.

The booking summary showed a “Total due” amount of $230 and, at the same time, a “Refund” amount of $230.

Since the amounts are exactly the same, the final cost difference is effectively zero. I found it amusing and was wondering why the system does not simply display a net total of $0 instead of showing a charge and refund separately.
