In the images I shared (Il-76, An-22, Tu-134), all of these aircraft appear to have glass noses.
I am wondering why this design was used. Were these aircraft originally derived from bomber designs, or was there another purpose for the glazed nose sections?
It makes sense for something like the Tu-116, which was based on the Tu-95 bomber, but I am less clear on why aircraft like the Il-76 would include this feature since they were not designed as bombers.
Can anyone explain the reasoning behind this design choice?
