Why do some hotels think bathroom doors are optional?

Just stayed at a 4 Points Sheraton in Biloxi and I’m still confused by the room design. The bathroom had one of those sliding barn doors, but with about a 1.5 inch gap all the way around.

From one side you could see straight into the toilet. From the other side, the mirror reflected the toilet even more. Zero privacy. It was just my husband and me, but still incredibly uncomfortable.

We complained at the hotel and were told all the rooms are designed the same way. Ended up using the lobby bathroom whenever possible. When I got home, I left a detailed review and it was gone by the next day.

I genuinely don’t understand how this design keeps happening, especially at a branded hotel. Am I the only one who thinks this is ridiculous?
