Why do people play videos out loud at the airport now?

Sitting at my gate today and the woman next to me was scrolling TikTok with the volume on full blast. No headphones, nothing.

I politely asked if she could use headphones and she responded with “it’s a free country.”

This is the third time in the past week I’ve seen people doing this at airports. Normally I just put my own headphones on, but today it really got under my skin.

Did people just collectively stop caring about basic airport etiquette?
