I’ve flown several times over the past three years between India and the US using both KLM and Air France, and I’ve noticed a pattern.
The India to Europe leg usually ends up being on older planes with worn interiors and older entertainment screens. But the Europe to US segment is almost always on a newer aircraft with much nicer cabins and better in-flight entertainment.
I’ve also noticed that seat selection often costs extra on the India to Europe leg, while on the Europe to US segment I’m often able to choose seats for free.
So it made me wonder how airlines decide which aircraft go on which routes. If the India to Europe flights carry a lot of passengers and people are paying for seat selection, why do they often use older planes there?
Not trying to criticize them, just genuinely curious how the aircraft allocation works or if I’ve just had bad luck with the planes.
