Why did United make everyone close their windows on a short daytime flight?

Flew United recently (1.5-hour domestic flight, mid-day) and was surprised when the crew told everyone to close their windows and dimmed all the lights. I’ve only seen that on long international flights.

I had a window seat but kept it shut since everyone else did ended up with some mild vertigo and lingering dizziness after. I didn’t realize how much I rely on seeing the horizon until then.

Is this a new United policy or just a crew choice? Genuinely curious, because I really liked the flight otherwise but might need to avoid that setup for health reasons.
