I originally booked a flight with Lufthansa from Hyderabad to Dallas (HYD → FRA → DFW), but it was cancelled due to pilot strikes.
I was then rerouted via Air India (HYD → DEL → SFO), with the final leg from SFO → DFW on American Airlines.
What surprised me is that instead of booking me on United Airlines (which is part of the same alliance and had a flight about 30 minutes later), they put me on American, which is a different alliance altogether.
The connection time in SFO was around 3 hours, so timing didn’t seem like a major constraint.
Any idea why a Star Alliance airline like Lufthansa would rebook a passenger on a OneWorld airline instead of sticking within alliance partners?
Curious if this comes down to availability, fare rules, interline agreements, or something else.
