I’ve stayed in hostels across multiple countries, often in mid-to-higher end options that attract international travelers. I’m Canadian, and I usually meet people from many different countries, but I rarely come across Americans.
I’m wondering if this is because Americans tend to prefer hotels or Airbnb-style accommodation, possibly due to higher purchasing power, or if they simply travel less in the hostel style.
That said, I do notice that destinations like Cancun and Cabo seem to have a large American tourist presence, which fits that idea.
Has anyone else observed this pattern or have an explanation for it?
