I know this comes up all the time, but I’m genuinely curious if anyone from AA can explain the logic here. Why are we required to sit in near darkness on daytime flights from Europe to the US?
I needed to work and the combo of a dark cabin, laptop glare, and overhead light gave me a headache and made me weirdly drowsy. I got so out of it I almost left my passport in the bathroom after landing.
I get that full sunlight can be brutal and that crews don’t want blinding glare. That makes sense. But on the 787 especially, the adjustable dimming windows can take the edge off without turning the cabin into nighttime. It feels like there should be a middle ground.
Is there a specific operational or safety reason for making it that dark, or is it just policy inertia at this point?
