Rain-style shower fixtures have become common in many properties operated by large hospitality brands such as InterContinental Hotels Group.
They persist mainly because they are seen as:
A design feature associated with modern / premium bathrooms
Part of standardized hotel room aesthetics
A way to deliver wide, evenly distributed water flow (at least in theory)
However, many users find them less practical compared to traditional or handheld showers because:
Water is harder to control
It’s difficult to avoid getting water in the face
Lathering or rinsing requires stepping out of the flow
They are less flexible for different showering preferences
In practice, the trend is not that rain showers will disappear, but rather that hotels increasingly combine them with handheld showerheads to improve usability.
