In my country, Tanzania, I feel like tourists often get overcharged when trying local food, especially in restaurants or popular tourist areas.
Meals that would normally cost less than a dollar at local spots are often priced at 10 to 15 USD in tourist-focused places. These prices are likely set because visitors from Europe or the US are used to paying that amount and don’t question it, even though the actual cost of preparing the food is very low and it’s often made in bulk and reheated.
I’m curious what similar experiences others have noticed in their own countries.
