What I witnessed during my adventure travel weekend

During a recent adventure trip to South Lake Tahoe, I expected hikes, lake views, and maybe a bear sighting or two, but I didn’t expect to see a real-life standoff between locals and wildlife officials. I was nearby when a mom bear and her cub were hazed up a tree after nearly causing a house fire. A field tech was trying to prevent more damage, but a crowd gathered fast, shouting at her like she was the villain. It got so intense that she had to be escorted out by police.

I love spotting wildlife when I travel, and Tahoe’s bear activity adds to the wild charm. But this experience really opened my eyes. We tourists and locals are creating this conflict by not securing trash or locking doors. Social media turns these bears into celebrities, but we forget they’re still wild animals. Anyone else seen the tension in person?
