What does AA actually need to fix to compete with Delta and United?

I’m fully biased, I’ve been with American since the American West days and stuck around after the merger. They’ve treated me well overall, even when things went sideways, and I usually feel like they try to make it right.

That said, it’s hard to ignore the narrative lately. Kirby saying it’ll basically be a two carrier game, Delta owning premium and corporate, and AA still carrying a lot of legacy baggage. It doesn’t feel totally wrong.

I had to fly United four times last week due to some weird routing and honestly… it felt like an LCC wearing a legacy logo. Constant credit card pitches, meh service, not exactly premium.

So what actually moves the needle for American? Better hard product? More consistency? Lounges? Ops reliability? Curious what people think AA needs to do to really compete again instead of just hanging on.
