What does a "priority flight" designation on the ramp sign actually mean

On a recent flight with United Airlines from Newark Liberty International Airport to San Francisco International Airport (UA1960), I noticed a “priority flight” label displayed on the ramp sign.

I’m curious what this actually indicates operationally. Does it mean the airline gives this flight internal priority, like faster pushback or better sequencing for departure? Or is it something meant for air traffic control to signal higher priority handling?

Interested to know if anyone has insight or has seen this designation before.
