I recently stayed at the WestHouse Hotel New York after booking through Hilton. The main reasons for choosing it were its proximity to a special concert we were attending and the opportunity to experience a Small Luxury Hotels (SLH) property for the first time.
Before arriving, I had already read reviews suggesting that this hotel might not fully represent the typical SLH experience since it's considered one of the more affordable and accessible options within the collection. Even so, with rates around $450–$550 per night on a Saturday, I expected something that would clearly stand out.
Overall, the hotel was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. What impressed me most was the sense of calm and privacy. Compared to many larger Midtown Manhattan hotels, the property felt quieter and less crowded. I think that exclusivity and lower guest volume are the main factors you're paying for here.
That said, it's still a sizable hotel by most standards. While the atmosphere was generally peaceful, I could occasionally hear other guests from my room due to thinner walls than I would have preferred.
The room itself offered a pleasant view of the city. Although partially obstructed, the view was still enjoyable and didn't significantly impact the experience.
One odd issue occurred when I requested a receipt after not receiving one through the Hilton app or email. A staff member informed me that the hotel was unable to send emails to Gmail addresses because of an ongoing system problem. I found that explanation unusual, though there wasn't much I could do about it.
In the end, I wasn't disappointed with the stay, but I did leave feeling somewhat underwhelmed considering the price. The hotel delivers a comfortable and quiet Midtown experience, but I'm not entirely convinced it offers enough to clearly separate itself from a quality Curio Collection property or an upscale Hilton nearby.
