Flew FRA to DFW today and my SWU cleared, so I was up front in business actually getting some sleep between solid meals.
The funny part was boarding. The only overhead bin that was open when people boarded was the one over my window seat. For some reason, about six people all piled up trying to jam their bags into that single bin like it was the last one on the plane. Meanwhile, the center overheads along my aisle were completely empty. I opened three of them. All empty. FA noticed too and just shook her head.
Another thing I noticed, a ton of people changed into pajamas or lounge clothes and took their shoes off before pushback. Maybe I’m just stuck in my military pilot mindset, but all I could think was… if something went sideways on takeoff, a lot of people would be barefoot. Guess that boosts my odds a bit. Dress to egress and all that.
Flight across the NATs was smooth. No complaints there.
On arrival, the same crowd rushed the aisles from both directions, blocking me and the guy in front of me in our seats. Mildly annoying but honestly kind of entertaining to watch.
After customs and TSA, I headed to my usual Admirals Club in C since my home flight normally leaves from there. The agent laughed and told me I shouldn’t be there and to go back to D for the Flagship Lounge. Had no idea that was included.
So here I am, three hour layover, sitting in Flagship eating bulgogi, sushi, cheese, meats, and enjoying the bar. Guy across from me has demolished what looks like 69 sushi rolls. Absolute legend.
Yeah… I need to do this more.
