Waukesha County Declares State of Emergency as Fox River Nears Record Flood Levels

Travelers in southeast Wisconsin should be aware that Waukesha County is under a state of emergency due to major flooding along the Fox River. Water levels peaked near 8.8 feet just shy of the 2008 record flooding parks, yards, and driveways. Some roads and bridges have been closed, and in Menomonee Falls, sinkholes have swallowed parts of roadways, even trapping a car.

If you’re passing through the area, expect detours, delays, and possible road closures. Local businesses like Gyro House and Vino Cappuccino are offering free meals to help affected residents, showing how the community is rallying together. For now, it’s best to avoid non-essential travel in the hardest-hit zones and keep an eye on local updates. Have you ever had travel plans completely upended by sudden flooding?
