I get both sides of this one.
Three kids, homeschooling, no real breaks… yeah, a cruise with built in kids clubs and a couple hours of adult time sounds amazing. Even just one quiet dinner would feel like a vacation.
But I also get the “floating city” anxiety if he’s never cruised before. It sounds chaotic if you picture it wrong. In reality it’s pretty controlled. Kids clubs have sign in and sign out, age groups, staff, security. It’s not like they’re roaming the ship alone.
As for Mexico and cartels… most cruise ports are very controlled tourist areas. And you don’t even have to get off the ship if that’s the worry. Plenty of families treat port days like bonus pool days.
Honestly this feels less about cruising and more about comfort level with the unknown. Maybe a short 3 or 4 night sailing just to test it would help? Or even just watching some ship tour videos together so he can see what it’s actually like.
Cruising with kids can be one of the easiest vacations logistically. Food handled, entertainment handled, no driving.
Anyone else have a hesitant spouse they had to convince?
