Waited 45 minutes for breakfast in Reykjavik and never got it

First trip back to Iceland since Covid, fifth time overall, and had a really odd experience that kind of killed the mood on day one.

I always go to this breakfast spot on the harbor. Found it by accident back in 2016 and have gone every trip since. Great view, good food, and there’s always the same group of older local guys sitting at a long table chatting like school kids. Love the vibe.

Got there around 10am, ordered coffee and the usual eggs, bacon, toast. Staff took the order. Only one other customer plus the group of older guys. I was exhausted after landing that morning and walking over from Harpa, so I just relaxed and read.

Fifteen minutes go by, nothing. Another customer comes in, orders a latte, drinks it, and leaves. Still no food for me. I finally ordered a latte myself, which they brought right away. At this point I’m not in a rush, check in isn’t until 3.

Now it’s been about 45 minutes. It’s past 11, still no food. The older guys start leaving and I’m wondering if they’re closing. I get up to ask what’s going on and instead the staff hands me a business card asking me to leave an online review.

Turns out breakfast ended at 11, they never made my food, and I still had to pay for the latte. No apology, just a weird explanation. Felt like they simply forgot my order.

Not the end of the world, but a strange way to kick off the trip. Ended up getting breakfast at a nice café downtown instead.
