Visiting Makaha Beach and Now I Get Why Jason Momoa Calls It His Favorite

I finally made it to Makaha Beach on Oʻahu’s west side, and I have to say Jason Momoa wasn’t exaggerating. The sand feels softer here, the water has this unreal clarity, and the sunsets paint the whole sky in gold and pink. There’s a laid-back, local vibe that instantly makes you slow down and just be. I even tried a bit of body surfing in the shorebreak though I’m pretty sure the ocean was in charge the whole time.

What I loved most was how untouched and authentic it felt compared to some of the busier beaches. Families were barbecuing, kids were playing in the waves, and it felt more like being welcomed into a community than visiting a tourist spot. I left with salty hair, sandy feet, and the feeling that I’d just experienced something truly special.
