Visited Kualoa Ranch on Oahu last week and left feeling like I walked through both ancient history and a movie set

It’s wild how this land, once a sacred training ground for Hawaiian chiefs, later became home to Dr. Gerrit Judd a missionary-turned-Hawaiian government official who left a massive mark on the islands. His descendants turned the property into a nature preserve and film hotspot. Walking through the valleys where Jurassic Park and Lost were shot gave me chills.

What struck me most, though, was the deeper history behind the land, how Judd embraced Hawaiian culture, wrote medical texts in Hawaiian, and earned the trust of King Kamehameha III. It’s a layered place, and you can feel the tension between preservation and tourism.
