Out of all the incredible drives in the U.S., Utah’s Highway 12 left the deepest mark on me. Stretching from Panguitch to Torrey, this 120-mile route slices through some of the most mesmerizing terrain in the American Southwest. The drive took me past Bryce Canyon’s otherworldly hoodoos, across the steep switchbacks near Calf Creek, and through the dramatic cliffs and canyons of the Grand Staircase-Escalante. There were stretches where the road felt like it floated above the earth, with views so vast they made my jaw drop.
The highlight? Driving over the Hogback, a narrow spine of road with drop-offs on both sides and no guardrails equal parts thrilling and humbling. I pulled over more times than I planned just to soak in the silence and the scenery. It wasn’t just a drive, it was a journey that reminded me how wild and beautiful the American landscape can be. Have you experienced Highway 12 or a road trip that changed your perspective?
