We’re getting married in Banff next year and needed to get five people from Boston to Calgary. Cash prices on WestJet were pretty rough, even with discounts. But the same nonstop showed up on Delta for 30k + ~$62 roundtrip per person with bags and seat selection included.
We had about 172k Amex points saved, so we ended up redeeming 150k for all five tickets and only paid around $300 out of pocket. My partner’s a little bummed we burned that many points instead of saving them for a big trip later, but weddings cost what they cost.
Curious how this looks to people who’ve been doing points longer solid redemption for a family trip, or should we have held onto those points?
