I am looking for urgent advice regarding a serious situation that happened during my recent trip.
I was traveling from London Heathrow to New Delhi on May 15, 2026, and during security screening someone took my cabin luggage and left their own bag behind. I reported it immediately to airport security, and they were able to identify that a woman had taken my bag while leaving hers behind.
Using the Find My app, I can now see that my cabin bag appears to be in Kenya. The bag contains extremely important items including my laptop, critical documents, and files that are not backed up, which makes this situation very stressful.
I have already filed a complaint with Heathrow and contacted British Airways, but so far I have not received much assistance. I have also submitted a police report in the UK.
Initially I thought it could have been an accidental mix-up, but the bag she left behind was silver while mine was black, which makes me increasingly concerned that this may have been intentional. In addition, my laptop location has reportedly moved several times within Nairobi, making me suspect theft rather than a simple mistake.
I have attempted to contact local authorities in Kenya as well, but reaching the right channels has been difficult and one contact even requested money.
I would appreciate advice on what steps I should take next, whether people think this is likely a mix-up or theft, and if anyone has experience dealing with similar situations.
